Throughout the centuries your name, Hodges, occurred in many records, manuscripts and documents but not always with your exact spelling. From time to time the surname was spelt Hodge, Hodges, and these variations in spelling frequently occurred, even between father and son. Scribes and church officials, frequently spelt the names phonetically. As a result the same person would be recorded differently on birth, baptismal, marriage and death certificates.
Back in August 18th, 1932 my father was born. He was adopted by the Hodges family in South Georgia whose parents were Frederick Benjamin Hodges & Jessie Pound Hodges. His Grandfather was Stephen Littleton Hodges and his great grandfather was Benjamin Hodges from Pitt county NC. I wondered which Hodges family he was adopted from in the Jacksonville area where he was born? Anybody know of any deaths at child birth or any other information that may could explain this family adoption?

Hello all! Here is a post detailing what I know about the Hodges background of my family. I have a bit more information than is listed here if it would be of help to anyone. At the end of this post is a quick summary of my lineage minus dates and siblings and marriages.
If anyone has any information about these people or thinks I can help them at all, please let me know!
Stephen S. Hodges (1812 in NY - ??) m. Mary Potter (1821 in NY - ??)
This is a photo take circa 1902 of what I believe to be the family (or some of the family members) of the Edmund William Hodges (1845-1920) family. I know that the family at the far right is my Grandfather, Alexander Willie Hodges (1867-1932) and his wife Edna Kennedy (1870-1904) and their five children, Dera, Edmond, Roy, Ruth, and Verda. I feel fairly sure this was taken around 1902, because Edna was deceased after February of 1904. My belief (not documented) is that EK and Augusta Applewhite Hodges appear at the center of the photograph. However, I would love to see if any other family members can confirm who else appears in the photo. Comments are welcome.
This beautiful handwritten document circa 1915 was found in an old trunk, saved and kindly sent to us by Barbara Fairbanks of Woodbury CT. We are attempting to find someone descended from William Hodge to pass it too.
My Great Grandfather Joseph Hodges came from Kidderminister, England born 1855, came to US in 1865. Married a Martha Harris in Springfield, Mo. Had 3 girls one boy Joe Samuel Hodges, who later moved to tulsa to operate Hodges Transfer and Moving ( Storage ). Died in 1945. Had son named Joseph Samuel Hodges, usually called Sam Hodges. Sam moved to California with a truck and married a Jane which gave two sons Joe and Dan ( both born between 1945 and 1948 ). Later he remarried a Gwen who gave him a son named Robert Hodges.
Any and all tips on where Joey or Danny Hodges would greatly be appreciated. If your Hodges has a sarah born in England around 1834 also let me know.
